National Service
Personnel in Ghana are experiencing an increasing amount of rage. After
discovering an inexplicable GH¢60 cut from their monthly stipend, thousands of
young workers are incensed.
Many feel deceived and
pressed financially without any previous notice or agreement. Affected staff
are urging the Attorney General, the Office of the Special Prosecutor, the CID,
and EOCO, among other important investigative agencies, to take quick action.
They argue that the leadership did not follow the correct procedures and call
for a thorough investigation into who approved these payments. Many fear that
if nothing is done now, these illegal charges will just go on.
The National Service
Authority, meanwhile, swiftly refuted any misconduct. Officials explained that
the authority has no legal right to divide allowances without authorization and
never accepted the money. Rather, they blamed the National Service Personnel
Association, stating that the funds were intended for a four-month volunteer
training program.
Authority executives
pledged to safeguard the allowances of anyone who objected to the levies in an
effort to ease the mounting strain. Employees are still on high alert until
their hard-earned money is properly accounted for, but the association leadership
is anticipated to conduct a news conference soon to clear the air.
