On Sunday, July 12, 2026,
a peaceful event at the NPP constituency executive elections in Wiamoase was
abruptly stopped, sparking tensions. Kwame Afrifa Mensah, 43, is said to have
arrived at the SDA Church polling place at around 7:45 a.m. with a party of
roughly thirty guys. The mob became hostile when security guards questioned
them; the men dumped election materials on the ground and attacked the
officials.
Afrifa Mensah, who
claimed to have acquired an injunction to suspend the voting process owing to
alleged voter suppression, was among the seven people who were successfully
apprehended by the police. Police, however, affirmed that they had not received
any such court order, nor had the Electoral Commission. Officers promptly
reestablished order as the remaining group members departed, enabling the
election to continue peacefully until the results were announced at 4:00 p.m.
Afrifa Mensah and another
suspect, Osman Awuni, 44, were admitted to the Mampong Government Hospital
after the event due to health issues, and they are still being watched by
police. While investigations into the interruption continue, authorities are actively
looking for the other suspects.
