Dense smoke filled the
sky on Sunday, July 12, 2026, when a large fire started in a warehouse in Tema
Community 26. Numerous barrels of alcohol were kept in the warehouse when a
dangerous fire started. The tremendous flammability of the stored alcohol has
made firefighting efforts challenging and demanding.
In order to combat the
fire and stop it from spreading to nearby homes, the Ghana National Fire
Service (GNFS) quickly dispatched four fire tenders from stations in the Tema
Industrial Area, Ashaiman, Tema Regional Headquarters, and Dodowa. The extent
of the damage to the warehouse and nearby buildings, as well as any potential
injuries or casualties, have not yet been formally verified. There are still
emergency responders on duty.
