Eric Afoakwa, better known as Chad, is a convicted fraudster who was apprehended on July 6, 2026, while trying to flee the nation.
After going into hiding
after his conviction, years of efforts to find him have come to an end with his
arrest. Under the direct supervision of the Inspector General of Police,
members of the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit conducted the operation.
The Accra High Court
first found Afoakwa guilty in absentia in 2019. He was charged with significant
offenses such as tax evasion, money laundering, forging official papers, and
deceiving by false pretenses.
Judge Georgina Mensah
Datsa sentenced him to eight years in prison after finding him guilty on five
of the six counts. The court also mandated that he reimburse his victim
$132,660.
The Economic and
Organized Crime Office (EOCO) had been pursuing him as a wanted man since his
escape. He will now be turned over to EOCO to carry out the court's ruling and
serve his sentence. In order to guarantee that all fugitives face justice, the
Ghana Police Service reiterated its dedication to collaborating with state
agencies.
