Following a terrifying
tanker collision near Amanase in the Eastern Region, a motorist had a fortunate
escape early on Sunday morning, July 12, 2026. Traveling from Kumasi to Accra,
the HOWO tanker abruptly veered off the busy Accra–Kumasi Highway and fell into
the jungle. After getting the alarm, a committed seven-person rescue squad from
the Suhum Municipal Fire Station raced to the area.
The firefighters worked
fast to cut through the wreckage and successfully release the trapped driver
using specialized instruments. The motorist was placed under police custody
after the rescue and transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for immediate
medical attention. Despite significant damage to the tanker's front part, it is
remarkable that no lives were lost in the incident.
Official investigations
are still in progress to ascertain the precise cause of the disaster, even
though authorities think it might have been the result of a mechanical
malfunction or human error. The tragedy is a sobering lesson to all drivers to
prioritize safety and remain vigilant when driving on the country's highways.
