Nigeria to Deactivate Documents of Former Citizens | www.lotalghana.org

Nigeria's Federal Government is taking a strong stance on national identity. It has formally instructed the Nigeria Immigration Service to cancel and deactivate foreign passports held by individuals who have renounced their citizenship.

 

This new rule guarantees that a person can no longer use a Nigerian passport if the President authorizes a renunciation in accordance with the 1999 Constitution. 

The action primarily targets ex-citizens who, despite getting their formal Certificate of Renunciation, continue to possess legal passports. The government makes sure that only legitimate citizens can take advantage of Nigerian travel documents by deactivating these passports.
