Homelessness Hits Afful-Nkwanta After Third Major Fire
The Dagomba Line village in Afful-Nkwanta has
been devastated by a big fire for the third time this year. Over 250 dwellings
were destroyed by fire early on Monday morning, leaving hundreds of
people—mostly young migrants—without a place to sleep.
Everyone
made it out safely, but thousands of cedis' worth of personal goods are now
ashes. Residents are still awaiting a formal study and a strategy for safer
housing despite the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly's prior pledges to look into
these frequent fires. Many have already begun removing the rubble in order to
start over after being left with no other option.
