The Ghana Police Service achieved a significant win after recovering GH¢140,000 and an AK-47 assault rifle from a bold robbery attempt in Lashibi.
On Friday, July 3, 2026,
a mobile money dealer was stopped while driving home by two armed individuals
on a motorcycle. Before taking the bag with the substantial amount of money,
the suspects opened fire on the victim's car, causing damage to the glass and a
tire.
But as the assailants
attempted to escape, the seller shot back, ending the robbery. While the second
suspect was able to flee, the first suspect was critically injured at the site.
Luckily, the victim was unharmed during the encounter, and the police were able
to retrieve the full GH¢140,000.
The AK-47 rifle, live ammo, and other materials were found during a search of the deceased suspect, 46-year-old Innocent Elemuwa Akachukeu.
The case has been taken over by the
Accra Regional Police Command, which is actively searching for the remaining suspect
and asking the public to provide any pertinent information.
