A hazardous weakness in our emergency medical system has been
made clear by a deadly shooting in Nkwanta South. Bright Nkpah, a 26-year-old
motorcyclist, was shot during a resurgence of local tensions, which made his
immediate transfer to Accra a nightmare.
A broken-down car had to be called from Worawora since
Nkwanta does not have a functional ambulance. Before eventually switching to a
second ambulance, Bright suffered for hours on difficult roads. Concerned
locals are now begging authorities to address this situation before more
innocent lives are lost because there are only two operational ambulances in
the entire Oti Region.
