Six persons, including a toddler, were hit by stray bullets during a wild celebration connected to a chieftaincy dispute, sending residents of Kwabenakwa in the Ashanti Region's Obuasi East District into shock.

The terrible episode occurred after a court decision benefited one side in a long-standing, traditional disagreement, according to eyewitness testimony. Overcome with joy, a man who was identified as Kofi Cole—apparently a member of the winning family—started shooting into the air to commemorate the ruling.

According to reports, he rallied several family members and rode along with them on a tricycle as they joyfully rode through the neighborhood. Six innocent locals, including a small toddler, were struck by stray gunshots that flew into surrounding homes and streets during the joyous shooting.

The wounded received immediate medical assistance after being rushed to a local hospital. Although their circumstances are still unknown, the careless use of firearms during festivities deeply alarmed the locals.

Witnesses reported hearing gunfire and seeing people fleeing for their lives. One resident recalled, "Until people began screaming that others had been hit, we thought it was just noise from the celebration."

Since then, the incident has provoked community indignation, with many demanding that the suspect be taken into custody and that gun laws be strictly enforced in order to stop tragedies like this one.

Local police have opened an inquiry into the incident, and Kofi Cole and other suspects are being sought out and taken into custody.

The hazards of celebratory shooting in Ghana have once again come to light as a result of this tragic incident, and authorities and community leaders are being urged to act more forcefully to stop the practice before more innocent people are killed.
