Statue of Akufo-Addo |
Former President Nana
Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's replacement statue is prepared for reinstallation,
according to Prophet Elisha Joshua, an independent parliamentary candidate for
Evalue Gwira in the 2024 elections.
He said that the statue
will shortly be put back in place at the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital
Roundabout in Sekondi, where it was originally located.
Shortly after the general
elections in 2024, the original monument—erected in honor of President
Akufo-Addo's contributions to the growth of the Western Region—was inexplicably
taken down by unidentified individuals.
The act was denounced by
Prophet Joshua, who had previously promised to rebuild the statue, calling it
an example of political intolerance that ought not to be promoted.
He clarified that
reinstallation preparations are well underway when speaking on Takoradi's
Connect FM.
They said the road was
not finished, which was the primary reason the statue was taken down. The road
is finished now, so there should not be any issues with its
reinstallation," he stated.
He also revealed that the
base and roundabout where the statue was formerly located are still in place
and that official permission from local authorities will be obtained shortly
before the installation.
He continued, "The
new statue has been molded, and before we reinstall it, we will seek the
approval of the regional leaders."
Prophet Joshua promised
that the renovated statue of former President Akufo-Addo will soon return to
its rightful location, even if no precise date has been set.
