A policewoman named
Rosemary, who is also a nursing mother, was allegedly pushed down by an Okada
rider from Omanjor on Wednesday night, resulting in a tense incident at
Ablekuma Fanmilk.
Witnesses said that the
policewoman was on duty when the motorcyclist, who was allegedly speeding, lost
control and struck her, knocking her out on the road. For medical treatment,
the rider and the police were sent right away to Mab Hospital in Ablekuma
Fanmilk.
Tension increased shortly
after the injured motorcyclist's buddies showed up at the hospital and
allegedly moved him to another hospital without telling the police. Some irate
locals responded by seizing the motorcycle that was involved in the collision.
When a group of Okada
riders from Omanjor invaded the area to collect the confiscated bike, the
situation swiftly descended into chaos and led to a fierce altercation with
locals. Later, police stepped in to restore order and calm the scene.
According to reports, the
motorcycle, registered under the license plate M-24-GW 1828, had been riding
without headlights for almost a week. Locals claim that this infraction has
been a factor in a number of accidents that have occurred in the neighborhood.
Residents of Fanmilk were
irate over the Fanmilk–Sowutuom Road's poor status, attributing the many
motorbike accidents to it. In order to stop more fatalities, they are now
pleading with the Ga Central Municipal Assembly to expedite the road's
completion.
While inquiries are
ongoing to ascertain the precise reason of the collision, the policewoman and
the Okada rider are reportedly currently undergoing medical treatment.
