Kpetaah Rejoice |
After an unforeseen circumstance left her academic future
unknown, a 14-year-old girl from Lambussie in the Upper West Region named
Kpetaah Rejoice has made a sincere plea to the West African Examinations
Council (WAEC) to release her pending mathematics results.
Rejoice was astonished to see that her mathematics paper had
been withheld without explanation after she apparently did exceptionally well
in all of her other subjects in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate
Examination (BECE). Her final score was therefore classified as incomplete,
resulting in an unexplained aggregate of 54 and what her family refers to as an
"unfair" placement at Wenchi Senior High School.
Rejoice's parents claim that she was among the top students
in her class and was anticipated to gain admission to one of Ghana's premier
senior high schools. Her placement has been severely impacted by the withheld
result, though, and the family is devastated.
Since then, her father has urged WAEC and the Ministry of
Education (MoE) to look into the matter immediately and make sure that the
marking and releasing procedures are equitable. The problem may have been
caused by an administrative or technical error, according to the family, and
they hope it can be fixed quickly so Rejoice can start her schooling right
away.
A number of social media users and members of the community
have joined the effort, urging WAEC to "do the right thing" and make
the young girl's results public.
Rejoice's tale sheds light on the difficulties that some
students have due to irregularities in exams and the pressing necessity for
education authorities to act promptly and transparently.
