Two sizable warehouses on
Accra's Spintex Main Road were completely destroyed by a terrible fire outbreak
on Tuesday night, causing thousands of Ghanaian cedis' worth of damage. The
Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and other assisting agencies responded in
force to the incident, which happened at No. 34 Spintex Main Road, just across
from Takyi Plaza.
The Kasapreko Fire
Station responded quickly to the distress call, which was received at 8:04
p.m., and reached the scene in four minutes, according to a GNFS report. But
the severity of the fire rapidly increased, necessitating the Ghana Armed
Forces Fire Unit and reinforcements from the Nungua, Tema Metro, Headquarters,
Trade Fair, and Motorway Fire Stations. To aid in containing the fire, four
private water trucks were also called into action.
After fighting the fire
for several hours, firefighters were able to contain it in two hours and put it
out completely in five more. Two warehouses containing furniture, curtain
textiles, sanitary products, and other materials were burnt to ashes in spite
of their unrelenting attempts.
A nearby three-story
showroom and a number of adjacent buildings were spared from damage because of
the firefighting teams' quick coordination. Regretfully, one firefighter was
hurt during the stressful operation and is presently being treated at Accra's
Police Hospital.
All assisting agencies
have received praise from the GNFS for their quick and efficient cooperation in
managing the issue. To ascertain the precise cause of the incident,
investigations have been initiated.
The courage and
sacrifices made by Ghana's firefighters, who risk their lives every day to save
lives and property, are starkly brought to light by this occurrence.
