A section of the Dodowa market is devastated by fire |
Early on Wednesday,
October 15, 2025, a fierce fire tore through parts of the Dodowa Market,
destroying multiple metal containers and their contents before Ghana National
Fire Service (GNFS) firefighters managed to contain it.
Beginning at
approximately 1:25 a.m., the fire quickly spread throughout the market,
frightening locals and vendors.
Thick smoke and raging
flames had already devoured multiple stalls when firefighters arrived,
endangering the market as a whole.
With assistance from the
Adenta and Madina Fire Stations, Katamanso Fire Station staff, under the
command of ADO I Simon Sosu, reacted quickly. Their concerted efforts
completely put out the fire at 4:51 a.m. and had the situation under control by
3:06 a.m.
Twelve metal containers
and their contents were totally destroyed, while six of them suffered some
damage. However, firefighters prevented what could have been a catastrophic
loss by saving more than fifty market sheds and surrounding buildings.
There were no reported
casualties or injuries.
To find out what caused
the fire, the GNFS has started an inquiry. The Service also acknowledged the
professionalism of Tema Region officers and Deputy Director of Operations ACFO
II Osmond Anum, as well as the cooperation provided by supporting agencies
during the operation.
