As the government
mobilizes substantial resources, the nation's response to the disastrous floods
on June 29 has reached a crucial point. The number of fatalities is still 34,
according to Richard Amo Yartey, Director of NADMO's Inspectorate Division. Regretfully,
91,046 people have been relocated nationally as a result of the calamity.
The government has
swiftly offered significant financial help to aid with recovery and long-term
protection for those impacted. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson was
instructed by President John Dramani Mahama to release GH¢350 million from the
Contingency Fund in order to deal with the issue. This money was moved to a
specific National Disaster Management Committee account at the Bank of Ghana
after receiving the required parliamentary permission.
To optimize impact, this
financing is allocated carefully. In particular, GH¢150 million is set aside
for flood prevention strategies meant to minimize the severity of future
occurrences, while GH¢200 million is designated for immediate relief operations
for victims and impacted areas. In order to protect residents nationwide, this
program guarantees that the government can simultaneously create better, more
robust infrastructure and offer prompt aid.
