Following the horrific killing of former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, nine people have appeared before the Adentan Circuit Court.
Israel Kwadwo Safo
Akofena, her own brother, is one of the accused. The gang was handcuffed and
strongly guarded by police when they arrived at the court premises.
This unsettling criminal case is the result of a terrible incident that occurred on Sunday, June 22, during an event meant to install Israel Safo as the new leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
Sadly, this
religious organization is now at the center of a deep and bitter family
conflict; tensions have been rising sharply since the death of their father and
church founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, in September 2025. The former MP
suffered painful gunshot wounds.
The family vehemently disputes Israel's claims to the leadership position and maintains that Adwoa Safo was chosen by their late father to guide them. In the meanwhile, public anxiety has grown as a result of police investigations.
A deadly cache of ammo, full magazines, and two Glock
handguns—one of which was allegedly registered to Israel Safo—were found during
a recent search in Kwabenya. While the court conducts its preliminary sessions,
the accused are safely detained by the police.
