After experiencing ongoing bullying and discrimination at
school, three young Ghanaian children who were born and nurtured in South
Africa are begging to return home. An 11-year-old child revealed that because
he is Ghanaian, his peers regularly make fun of and ignore him.
His six-year-old sister disclosed the devastating truth that
even her instructor makes fun of her and encourages classmates to make fun of
her. Their seven-year-old brother, meanwhile, is subjected to everyday
harassment from other students, including body-shaming and having his food
thrown away.
According to their father, Isaac Owusu, his children have
been so traumatized by the extreme animosity that they have refused to go to
school for a month. The family is eager to join the more than 987 citizens who
have already been evacuated by the Ghanaian government, fearing for their
safety ahead of rumored deadlines for foreigners to depart.
Mr. Owusu is pleading with the government to show mercy and
provide immediate assistance so that more than 1,500 Ghanaians can return home.
Now, all these kids want is to leave the animosity behind and go back to Ghana,
where they truly belong.
