The Nigerian Army has
detained Alhaji Tijjani Abdul Rauf for allegedly leading a gigantic falsehood,
in a daring attempt to save the military's honor. Rauf allegedly pretended to
be a retired Major General for years, using the prestigious status to scare
civilians and even deceive them in court. But according to the Army's official
records, the guy was never commissioned as an officer and never held a general
position.
A fictitious rank was not
the end of the deception. Rauf also made false claims of attending a famous
national institute and claimed to be a "Officer of the Order of the
Federal Republic" (OFR). His actions were characterized by military leaders
as a grave misuse of the Army's reputation. As of mid-February 2026, he is in
captivity and must deal with the fallout from his intricate deception. A
sobering reminder that stolen glory inevitably leads to a very real demise is
provided by this arrest.
